We present a method to measure continuous-wave ferromagnetic resonance FMR spectra based on( a# n+ t4 \0 g& T& r% U
the core-level absorption of circularly polarized x rays. The technique is demonstrated by using a) v8 U$ }" m9 E% b$ S% S; l
monochromatic x-ray beam incident on an yttrium–iron–garnet sample excited by a microwave field
l# M- Y$ x3 u2 I W1 |# K3 |5 |at 2.47 GHz. FMR spectra are obtained by monitoring the x-ray absorption intensity at the photon
+ k) l: t! X: e3 Benergy corresponding to the maximum of the magnetic circular dichroism effect at the iron L2,3
- R+ B9 V" I* ?+ r( dedges as a function of applied magnetic field. The x-ray FMR signal is shown to be energy$ ~3 |. Q; `1 o4 v5 E
dependent, which makes the technique element sensitive and opens up new possibilities to perform
, w- g- s5 Q* s# j8 h" I1 w' v0 Q' Melement-resolved FMR in magnetic alloys and multilayers.
