2007 年 6 月蘋果(Apple)iPhone 首度問世、2008 年底宏達電與 Google 攜手發表首款 Android 手機 G1 之後,包含智慧型手機與平板電腦在內的智慧手持裝置(Smart Handheld Device)陸續上市,由於重新定義使用者與硬體互動體驗、改變應用服務出版與消費模式, 全球智慧手持裝置產業已形成一套生態體系,非單純硬體製造、技術能力的競爭而已,主要業者都想盡辦法提高生態體系掌握度以強化競爭力。其中影響整體系統的流暢水準,以及考驗業者軟硬體整合功力的使用者界面將是未來智慧手持裝置發展重點之一。於此同時, 經由網路，將龐大的運算能力提供給使用者運用的雲端運算服務，也是另一個資通訊產業之熱門議題。
