What is Q Factor?

Q is a measure of the electrical signal to noise of the system at the receiver decision threshold.
+ l' i  A4 P- ^! H% y3 r9 NWhen it is impractical to measure BER with conventional techniques, Q may be used to estimate BER.
Q Factor is a figure of merit often used in optically amplified systems in which noise from the amplifiers dominates receiver noise.
A Q measurement application is included in every N4906A.
