These sessions include Internet telephone calls, multimedia distribution, and multimedia conferences. The SIPit (SIP Interoperability Test Event) is the premier international test event for real-time IP communication using the Session Initiation Protocol. Twice a year, around fifty organizations representing over a hundred implementations engage at the SIPit for a week of testing to refine both the specification and implementation of the world's next communication infrastructure.

此次是SIP Forum第二次來台灣舉行，由歐洲電信標準協會ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute)主辦，由經濟部通訊產業發展推動小組及工研院資通所共同協助，國內外參與廠商相當踴躍，包括晶片、手機、平板電腦、電信業者、系統廠商及通訊軟體業者等，如: Cisco、Nokia、IBM、NTT、Softbank、Avaya、softfoundry、中磊、圓剛科技等多達30家廠商參與。

" ?5 w: h% g5 k; m5 R經濟部產業通訊發展推動小組表示，台灣近年來在政府的推動下，已逐步讓台灣站上國際標準的舞台，越來越多的標準組織，就是看到了台灣的完整產業鏈，而選擇來台灣舉辦會議，例如:WiMAX Forum等，此次再度爭取到世界級SIP互通測試大會在台灣舉行，希望藉此機會讓更多台灣廠商有機會與國際大廠進行技術交流外，拓展國際商機。

SIP(Session Initiation Protocol)是網際網路標準組織IETF(Internet Engineer Task Force)在1999年針對網路電話與多媒體通訊所制定的標準，SIP為廣泛使用的VoIP通訊協定之一，不同於H.323陳述了完整的系統架構，SIP只單純地定義電話建立的方式，相較於H.323, SIP的擴充性佳，而且可以與H.323協定相通，與IP應用協定也相近，因此被視為有機會取代現有H.323技術，成為網路電話的技術標準。

國際SIP國際互通測試大會(SIPit 27, Plug Test Interop Events)，從11/15 ~ 19日在台北遠東飯店舉行，有來自10多個國家，近30家廠商參與，針對網路電話相關產品進行互通測試，這是提供國內廠商產品與國際大廠相容測試的機會，也被視為是爭取國際大廠訂單的機會。

' Y) I, b7 L$ D" xVoIP網路電話的崛起，讓消費者多了節費選擇，為了讓各家產品相容，提高消費者購買意願，這類在全球各地舉辦的VoIP產品互通測試大會，就是要找出彼此不相容的問題，減少衝突點。
