With the huge amount of video cameras installed everywhere nowadays, there is an urgent need for automated video analysis techniques that can replace human operators to monitor the areas under security surveillance. Video summarization or highlighting is one of the earlier efforts in systematically providing a high-level semantic concept, i.e., concept filtering, by classifying video shots into different predefined categories.
