EDA Consortium Reports 11% Industry Revenue Growth in Second Quarter 2007

October 31, 2007 -- The EDA Consortium’s Market Statistics Service (MSS) has announced that EDA industry revenue for Q2 of 2007 grew 11.4% to $1,408.8 million, versus $1,264.8 million in Q2 2006. The four-quarter average growth rate, which compares the most recent four quarters to the same four quarters in the prior year, was 14.6%.7 [, R( o# Z2 r6 f( N( H+ W4 I

4 D6 K  @5 |% X6 l$ a# o* hCompanies that were tracked employed 26,164 professionals in Q2 2007, up 7.4% from the 24,362 employed in Q2 2006.  “The EDA industry continues to see steady growth, maintaining the momentum that began this time last year,” said Aart de Geus, Chairman of the EDA Consortium and Cchairman and CEO of Synopsys, Inc. “North America, Europe and rest of world all saw sequential growth in Q2 2007.”  & _' X( U: o4 z* Z* \4 M5 W.   • EDA’s largest category, Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), generated revenue of $538.9 million in Q2 2007, 12.8% more than the same period in 2006. The four quarter moving average CAE growth rate was 11.8%.
  • IC Physical Design & Verification revenue increased 15.8% to $397.2 million in Q2 2007, compared to the same quarter in 2006. The four quarter moving average growth rate was 14.9% for IC Physical Design & Verification.
  • Semiconductor Intellectual Property (SIP) revenue totaled $269.2 million in Q2 2007, a 7.1% increase over Q2 2006. The four quarter moving average growth rate for SIP was 18.1%.
  • Services revenue was $84.8 million in Q2 2007, up 11.1% from Q2 2006. The four quarter moving average growth rate was 9.5% for Services.
  • Printed Circuit Board and Multi-Chip Module (PCB & MCM) revenue increased 1.9% over Q2 2006 to $118.7 million. The four quarter moving average growth rate for PCB & MCM was high at 22.3%.
Revenue by Consuming Region
  • North America, EDA’s largest region, purchased $679.2 million of EDA products and services in Q2 2007, a 13.2% increase over Q2 2006. The four quarter moving average growth rate was 19.9% for North America.
  • Western Europe revenue was up 7.9% in Q2 2007 with revenues of $245.7 million compared to Q2 2006. The four quarter moving average growth for Western Europe was 8.7%.
  • 2007 Q2 revenue from Japan declined 8.5% compared to Q2 2006 to $244.8 million. The four quarter moving average decrease was 1.0% for Japan.
  • Rest-of-World (ROW) continued to extend previous years of revenue growth by increasing 41.2% to $239.0 million in Q2 2007 compared to the same quarter in 2006. The four quarter moving average growth was also strong at 31.7%.

Each quarterly report is published approximately three months after quarter close. MSS report data is segmented as follows: revenue type (product licenses and maintenance, services, and SIP), application (CAE, PCB/MCM Layout, and IC Physical Design and Verification), operating system (UNIX vs. Windows) and region (North America, Western Europe, Japan, and Rest of World), with many subcategories of detail provided. The report also tracks total employment of the reporting companies.

EDA Consortium Reports 7.2% Industry Revenue Growth in Third Quarter 2007

January 14, 2008 -- The EDA Consortium Market Statistics Service (MSS) today announced that the EDA industry revenue for Q3 2007 grew 7.2% to $1,412.1 million, versus $1,317.2 million in Q3 2006. The four-quarter average growth rate, which compares the most recent four quarters to the same four quarters in the prior year, was 12.3%.  "Compared to the same quarter last year, the worldwide EDA and IP industry showed continued growth in Q3 2007, with particular strength in Western Europe, Japan and the Rest-of-World," said Robert Gardner, executive director, EDA Consortium. "Overall revenue increased, as did employment in EDA."  Companies that were tracked employed 27,254 professionals in Q3 2007, up 8.1% from the 25,214 employed in Q3 2006.  "The industry shows solid growth again this quarter, especially in Computer Aided Engineering.   • EDA's largest category, Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), generated revenue of $564.6 million in Q3 2007, representing a 13.4% increase over the same period in 2006. The four quarter moving average CAE growth rate was 12.3%.
  • For IC Physical Design & Verification, the next largest category, revenue increased to $372.8 million in Q3 2007, a 5.4% increase compared to Q3 2006. The four quarter moving average growth rate was 11.4% for IC Physical Design & Verification.
  • Semiconductor Intellectual Property (SIP) revenue totaled $263.2 million in Q3 2007, a 3.5% increase over Q3 2006. The four quarter moving average growth rate for SIP was 13.2%.
  • Services revenue was $83.8 million in Q3 2007, up 11.9% from Q3 2006. The four quarter moving average growth rate was 11.6% for services.
  • Printed Circuit Board and Multi-Chip Module (PCB & MCM) revenue decreased 6.4% over Q3 2006 to $127.7 million. However, the four quarter moving average growth rate for PCB & MCM was 13.3%.
Revenue by Consuming Region
  • North America, EDA's largest region, purchased $624.2 million of EDA products and services in Q3 2007. Although this represents a 1.9% decrease compared to Q3 2006, the four quarter moving average growth rate was 14.2% for North America.
  • Western Europe revenue was up 13% in Q3 2007 compared to Q3 2006, with revenues of $284.5 million. The four quarter moving average growth for Western Europe was 8.5%.
  • 2007 Q3 revenue from Japan increased 14.2% compared to Q3 2006 to $300.9 million. The four quarter moving average increase was 0.6% for Japan.
  • Rest-of-World (ROW) continued to extend previous years of revenue growth by increasing to $202.4 million, a 22.2% increase compared to the same quarter in 2006. The four quarter moving average growth was also strong at 30.6%.

EDA Consortium Reports 6.7% Industry Revenue Growth in Fourth Quarter 2007

April 4, 2008-- The EDA Consortium Market Statistics Service (MSS) today announced that the electronic design automation industry revenue for Q4 2007 grew 6.7% to $1,602.7 million, versus $1,501.9 million in Q4 2006. The four-quarter average growth rate, which compares the most recent four quarters to the same four quarters in the prior year, was 9.1%.  "The reported worldwide EDA industry showed continued growth in Q4 2007, with double digit growth in Japan and the Rest-of-World," said Robert Gardner, executive director, EDA Consortium. "Overall industry revenue increased relative to both Q4 2006 and the four quarter moving average.   • EDA’s largest category, Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), generated revenue of $663.6 million in Q4 2007, representing a 13.5% increase over the same period in 2006. The four quarter moving average CAE growth rate was 12.2%.
  • For IC Physical Design & Verification, the next largest category, revenue increased to $440.5 million in Q4 2007, a 14.3% increase compared to Q4 2006. The four quarter moving average growth rate was 12.3% for IC Physical Design & Verification.
  • Semiconductor Intellectual Property (SIP) revenue totaled $265.4 million in Q4 2007, a 6.3% decrease over Q4 2006. The four quarter moving average growth rate for SIP remained positive at 4.1%.
  • Services revenue was $79.4 million in Q4 2007, up 3.0% from Q4 2006. The four quarter moving average growth rate was 9.3% for services.
  • Printed Circuit Board and Multi-Chip Module (PCB & MCM) revenue decreased 10.4% over Q4 2006 to $153.8 million. The four quarter moving average growth rate for PCB and MCM showed a 1.5% decrease.
Revenue by Consuming Region
  • North America, EDA’s largest region, purchased $735.9 million of EDA products and services in Q4 2007. Although this represents a 5.6% decrease compared to a strong Q4 2006, the four quarter moving average growth rate was up 2.8% for North America.
  • Western Europe revenue was up 9.8% in Q4 2007 compared to Q4 2006, with revenues of $316.9 million. The four quarter moving average growth for Western Europe was 9.9%.
  • 2007 Q4 revenue from Japan increased 30.4% to $316.0 million compared to Q4 2006. The four quarter moving average increase was 10.1% for Japan.
  • Rest-of-World (ROW) continued to extend previous years of revenue growth by increasing to $233.8 million, a 22.1% increase compared to the same quarter in 2006. The four quarter moving average growth was also strong at 30.8%.

EDA Consortium Reports Revenue Increase for Q1 2010

July 13, 2010 -- The EDA Consortium (EDAC)Market Statistics Service (MSS) today announced that the EDA industry revenue for Q1 2010 was $1247 million, a 4.6% increase compared to $1192.1 million in Q1 2009. Sequential EDA revenue declined 1.2%, while over the last four quarters it declined 5.9%. "Led by increases in the CAE and Semiconductor IP categories, the EDAC revenue numbers show an increase over Q1 2009," said Wally Rhines, EDAC chair and chairman and CEO of Mentor Graphics. "Geographically, the Asia/Pacific region showed growth both year to year and quarter over quarter." Companies that were tracked employed 26,099 professionals in Q1 2010, up 0.4% compared to Q4 2009, but down 1.7% from the 26,561employed in Q1 2009. Revenue by Product Category
  • Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), EDA's largest category, generated revenue of $458.5 million in Q1 2010. This represents a 7.2% increase over the same period in 2009. Over the last four quarters, CAE declined 3.5%.
  • IC Physical Design & Verification revenue decreased to $274.4 million in Q1 2010, a 9.2% decrease compared to Q1 2009. Over the last four quarters, IC Physical Design & Verification declined 8.3%.
  • Printed Circuit Board and Multi-Chip Module (PCB & MCM) revenue decreased 8.8% compared to Q1 2009, to $109.4 million. Over the last four quarters, PCB & MCM decreased 8.9%.
  • Semiconductor Intellectual Property (SIP) revenue totaled $320.9 million in Q1 2010, a 35.8% increase compared to Q1 2009. Over the last four quarters, SIP decreased 0.1%.
  • Services revenue was $83.7 million in Q1 2010, a decrease of 20.7% compared to Q1 2009. Over the last four quarters, services decreased 21.7%.
Revenue by Consuming Region
  • The Americas, EDA's largest region, purchased $492.9 million of EDA products and services in Q1 2010, representing a decrease of 0.2% compared to Q1 2009. Over the last four quarters, the Americas were down 5.5%.
  • Revenue in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) was up 0.5% in Q1 2010 compared to Q1 2009 on revenues of $224.2 million. Over the last four quarters, EMEA was down 13.1%.
  • First quarter 2010 revenue from Japan decreased 1.9% to $250.8 million compared to Q1 2009. Over the last four quarters, Japan decreased 9.1%.
  • The Asia/Pacific (APAC) region increased to $279.0 million in Q1 2010, a 33.2% increase compared to the same quarter in 2009. Over the last four quarters, APAC increased 7.0%.
